🛶 The Hanmer Race: Powered by Volunteers Since 1963!
Saranac Lake’s legacy of community spirit shines through in the annual Willard Hanmer Guideboat & Canoe Races — a tradition born in 1963 and still thriving thanks to passionate volunteers. From its roots with founders Tom Cantwell and Rex Brusgul to its revival by the Dyer sisters and Chris Woodward, the Hanmer has always been a labor of local love.
With the support of over 60 volunteers, the race is stronger than ever — and returns July 6, 2025! Plus, don’t miss the Guideboat Show at the Hotel Saranac, celebrating these iconic crafts all week long.

🌟 Kids Race FREE at the Hanmer! 🛶
Thanks to a generous sponsorship from the Saranac Lake Kiwanis Club, all Junior entries (ages 16 & under) in the Willard Hanmer Guideboat & Canoe Races on July 6 will have their entry fees fully covered!
Junior racers can compete in kayak, canoe, and guideboat classes — no cost to participate! Boat rentals are available through local outfitters, and several boats have also been donated for race-day use.
This exciting partnership supports youth, community, and getting the next generation out on the water!
